Spring has always been the best time to bring new life into our homes. Whether you declutter the entire house, or freshen up the kitchen, it all deserves your attention. A winter kitchen can be cozy and have warmth, spring kitchens are so light and airy. Best news, it doesn't ever have to break the bank either.
The following are 3 ways to make an impact to your home and freshen it up. No painting (unless it's needed).
I cannot tell you how a good declutter feels after you clean up, organize and toss / donate unused items. Your quickly reminded how much you have when you found tools or small appliances that haven't been touched in a year or so. Let them go! Containers without matching lids, old dish towels, give yourself permission to part. Spring and Summer are about lightening up the area, reduce clutter and make the room feel more inviting. If your feeling the itch to rearrange, do it. Cabinets need a touchup? Try something new.
DEEP CLEAN
I'm cleaning daily (vacuum, sweep, with two dogs you have to. I love nothing more than a sparkling kitchen, with everything put away, floor is so clean you can be barefoot. Start with the dishes, unloading the dishwasher, clean items away. Wipe down your surfaces, scrub the sink and stove, sweep and mop the floor. Then if you have energy left, clean that fridge, microwave and oven. The fridge and stove can be a monthly thing, microwave a weekly thing. A truly clean kitchen will honestly take a few days. Now if you have kids running around, this is all best during naps or at school. Don't worry if it all doesn't get done in one afternoon.
GET YOUR PANTRY PRETTY
A refresh isn't complete without that pantry. She will work overtime in the winter, so going into spring is a great way to update. Take everything out (yes, EVERYTHING), and dust the shelves. Anything in the back corner has most likely gone bad. Organize things into groups, get shelving, bins to hold items, baskets for loose things. Pro tip: labels on containers keeps you organized. Everyday items should be at eye level, and store less-used high up in glass bins.
A few extras that can add a little something:
Add Fresh Greenery or Flowers - have an herb garden in your kitchen or plants. The colors are synonymous for spring and perks up your countertops. My sister in law always has plants in the house.
Swap Out Textiles - Think it's time to retire the Christmas towels and bring in yellow and white striped linens. Replace those winter towels with fun prints, florals, gingham. Add a runner for your table.
Light A New Candle To Add Fragrance - Love coming home to house that smells like the tropics or beach. This keeps the vibes fresh, even when your not cooking. If your not a candle person, create stovetop potpourri with lemon slices, rosemary and vanilla extract for a all-natural home fragrance. Even lemon and water simmering in a pot or crockpot makes your kitchen smell fresh.
