Won't Go Broke Summer Pieces

.
Freshen up your summer closet. One thing I've learned over the last 5 years of wearing lots of black all year long, it hides the muffin top but gets really hot and uncomfortable. I've decided this will be the year of linen, light colors, flowy dresses and pieces that aren't just spandex leggings and tees.

Simple Sundress or Flowy Skirt

For my girls who love a good summer dress that is flowy and breathable during Texas summers. Finding a perfect dress is a capsule in your wardrobe. It's a one-and-done outfit, that can be pared with a cute necklace, fun earrings, and strapping sandals. My favorites are full length sundresses that I can pair with sandals or even heels if I'm feeling spunky. You can add a statement belt, or tie a solid scarf around your waist.

Lightweight and Airy Tops

Being a California native (Northern California you don't get the heat like you do in the Central Valley or So Cal), knew early on about summer shopping and finding pieces that were breathable. NorCal wasn't a big deal, as you could get away with shorts, t-shirt, flops. Living in Texas now is a whole other game. You WANT those flowy dresses or blousy tops, button down linen shirts. Let's go back to the 90's with sleeveless vests.

Brands like Old Navy, Amazon, or even hitting Marshalls will give you great pieces, for affordable pricing.

Summer Sandals

Sandals are the footwear of summer. Goodbye are the lined boots, and hello to biweekly pedicures (unless you've managed to master making your toes look summer ready).Whether your a seasoned sexy strappy number, or making the migration from basic flipflops, sandals should be in either black, white or a neutral tone. They really should accentuate your freshly painted piggies yet still stylish with your day clothing of choice.

Straw Bags

Now that my daughter is 3 (oh heaven help me), I'm putting my diaper bag on the shelf and using bags for her training pants, wipes, an outfit or 2. Which means and can roll around in a purse/bag with my wallet, phone, keys, and little bag for sunscreen, lip stuff and whatever else I can fit in it. This material brings back fond memories of my mom using her summer raffia bags for the beach or shopping with friends. It's pretty stylish for summer, and something totally different than what I'd normally use.

Protective Hats

Mommas, don't leave the house without a protective hat (and sunscreen of course). This will be my first year of being more chic with my wardrobe pieces for summer, and feel it's necessary to have more wide brim hats in my collection. There is something so powerful about a stylish outfit (or bathing suit), dark sunglasses and big hat (especially fishing mind you). It's functional, fashionable and protecting our faces, because if your like me, you forget you reapply that sunscreen daily, or every 2 hours. Now, if full-brim hats just aren't your thing, the classic trucker has a cool-girl touch, and still covers your face beautiful.

Chic Sunnies

Finally, sunnie. Throwing on a pair of chic sunglasses ends up making your entire look. It's like the cherry on top for summer wardrobes. It's not totally required, but gosh it really makes the look though. I do love a variety of glasses, depends on the outfit and feeling. Now, like my reading glasses, they will get left somewhere if they aren't in the case or my head, so don't feel like you need to spend more than say $20 on a pair. Walmart has a pretty good selection actually, so does Marshalls (sometimes). You can also hit up Target, for cute styles too or my love Amazon. A designer pair is always a fun purchase if you have the bank account. In my book, anything under $25 will get you just as many compliments. My last pair of Maui Jim's were $250, and I ended up return them (couldn't stomach the price tag, especially when they get lost).
